Why this technology matters.
Web engineering is building modern web applications with semantic HTML, responsive CSS, and interactive JavaScript, including routing, forms, APIs, accessibility, and deployment fundamentals. It matters now because the browser remains the most common way people reach a product.
It is used for responsive sites, form-driven pages, and API-connected front ends, solving layout, interactivity, and accessible input handling. It does not solve service problems: good markup does not fix unreliable APIs, client-side validation does not replace server-side checks, and deployment does not fix untested accessibility.
By the end you will be able to build responsive pages with semantic markup, modern layouts, and reusable styles, interactive browser behavior with events, state, and form validation, and an accessible interface with keyboard support, contrast, and screen-reader labels connected to APIs and deployed to hosting.
Why this course exists
The gap is between a static page that looks right and a production web application that routes, validates, handles API errors, stays accessible, and deploys repeatably. The course teaches the arc from idea to design to code to test to deploy to operate, so students can ship web apps people can actually use.

What you'll be able to do.
- Build responsive pages with semantic markup, modern layouts, and reusable styles.
- Develop interactive browser behavior with events, state, and form validation.
- Design accessible interfaces with keyboard support, contrast, and screen-reader labels.
- Integrate public and custom APIs for data fetching, error states, and loading flows.
- Evaluate page performance using loading, rendering, and asset-size techniques.
- Secure browser forms with validation, safe storage, and cross-site scripting awareness.
- Optimize media, fonts, and bundles for faster and more reliable page loads.
- Deploy a live multi-page site with routing, forms, and production hosting setup.
You will build.

Interactive browser behavior with events and form validation
- Project 03
Accessible routed web application consuming APIs
- Capstone
Deployed accessible web application with routing and forms
Speak the language first.
- Semantic markup
- HTML elements that describe content meaning so pages are easier to style, find, and use with assistive tools.
- Responsive CSS layouts
- Flexible grids and breakpoints that rearrange content cleanly across phone, tablet, and desktop widths.
- Browser events and state
- User actions such as clicks and input plus stored values that drive interactive page behavior.
- Form validation
- Checking user entries in the browser and on submit so mistakes are flagged before data is sent.
- Client routing
- Mapping URLs to views so users can navigate and bookmark pages in a multi-screen site.
- API consumption in the browser
- Fetching and sending data with fetch calls while handling loading, success, and error states.
- Web accessibility
- Keyboard support, contrast, and labels that make pages usable for people with different needs.
- Static deployment fundamentals
- Publishing built files to web hosting with correct routes, caching, and rollback options.
Fix, check, and go deeper.
Troubleshooting & common mistakes
Layout breaks on narrow screens
Test at mobile widths, fix grid and overflow rules, and replace fixed widths with flexible units.
Form accepts bad input or rejects good input
Align validation rules with expected formats, show inline messages per field, and retest edge inputs.
Interactive element does not respond to clicks or keys
Verify the event listener is attached, check console errors, and confirm keyboard focus reaches the control.
Screen-reader or keyboard users cannot use a control
Add proper labels, roles, and focus handling, then retest the flow without a mouse.
Deployed site shows stale pages or broken routes
Check build output, routing rewrites, and cache headers, then redeploy and verify each route.
Before you move on, you should be able to
- Build responsive pages with semantic markup, modern layouts, and reusable styles
- Build interactive browser behavior with events, state, and form validation
- Design accessible interfaces with keyboard support, contrast, and screen-reader labels
- Deploy web applications with routing, caching, and rollback basics
- Explain how browser code consumes APIs with loading and error states
- Evaluate a page for accessibility and responsive issues
- Design a multi-page web flow from markup through interaction to deployment
