Why this technology matters.
Cloud engineering is how modern applications get reliable homes on the internet: virtual networks, on-demand computers, flexible storage, and identities that control who can touch what. Instead of buying and wiring physical servers, you rent and configure these building blocks in minutes, then automate, monitor, and pay only for what you use. It matters now because almost every team, from a small startup to a large retailer, runs on the cloud.
Cloud engineers build isolated networks with subnets and routing, deploy virtual machines and managed compute services, and lock things down with roles and least-privilege access. It solves elastic capacity, repeatable environments, and cost and operations visibility. It does not solve bad application design on its own, and automation does not fix unclear requirements or missing cost discipline.
By the end you will be able to build an isolated virtual network with subnets and routing rules, a repeatably deployed virtual machine workload from templates and scripts, and a least-privilege identity setup with cost and monitoring controls for a production-ready environment.
Why this course exists
The gap is between clicking through a console demo and operating infrastructure that stays secure, repeatable, and affordable under real use. This course closes it across the arc from idea to design to provisioning to automation to monitoring to operation. You leave able to provision, automate, secure, and operate cloud foundations with steady confidence.

Isolated virtual network with subnets and routing
- Project 02
Repeatable virtual machine deployment
- Project 03
Least-privilege identity and access setup
- Capstone
Production-ready monitored cloud workload
Speak the language first.
- Virtual networks and subnets
- Isolated network segments that control which cloud resources can reach each other and the internet.
- Routing and network isolation
- Route tables and rules that direct traffic between subnets and separate workloads for safety.
- Virtual machines and managed compute
- On-demand servers and managed services that run applications without buying physical hardware.
- Cloud storage tiers
- Different storage options for files, disks, and archives, each balancing cost, speed, and durability.
- Identity roles and policies
- Permissions attached to users and services that define exactly what they may access.
- Least-privilege access
- The practice of granting only the minimum permissions a workload or person needs.
- Infrastructure templates
- Reusable configuration files that provision the same cloud environment every time.
- Cost monitoring and budgets
- Usage tracking and alerts that keep cloud spending visible and under control.
- Workload monitoring and alerts
- Metrics and alarms that show resource health and warn before problems affect users.
Fix, check, and go deeper.
Troubleshooting & common mistakes
Virtual machine unreachable after network change
Check subnet route table, firewall rules, and public address assignment, then reopen only the required ports.
Deployment works once but fails on rebuild
Compare manual changes against the template, move drifted settings into the template, and redeploy from code.
Access denied for an application service
Inspect the attached role and policy scope, grant the missing least-privilege permission, and retest.
Unexpected spike in cloud bill
Review usage by service and region, stop idle instances, downsize disks, and set a budget alert.
Monitoring shows high CPU but app seems fine
Correlate CPU with request counts and scheduled jobs, then right-size the instance or add autoscaling.
