Introduction

Why this technology matters.

AI strategy is the leadership practice of converting hype into a funded portfolio: diagnosing where AI helps, scoping pilots with success metrics, and governing rollout responsibly. It matters now because every executive faces competing proposals and needs rigor to separate valuable bets from expensive distractions.

It is used to map opportunities across functions, prioritize investments by value and feasibility, and sequence roadmaps with governance checkpoints. It does not solve execution by itself: a roadmap does not write the pilot, metrics do not fix unclear ownership, and governance reviews do not help if they arrive after launch.

By the end the participant will be able to build an AI opportunity portfolio mapped to business outcomes, a pilot design with success metrics and risk notes, and a phased rollout roadmap with a governance model and investment narrative.

Why this course exists

The gap is between scattered pilots that never graduate and a disciplined portfolio that moves from opportunity to pilot to graduate-or-stop decisions. The program teaches an arc from opportunity mapping to pilot design to metrics, governance, and investment prioritization, so leaders fund what works and stop what does not.

Troubleshooting & common mistakes

Pilots never graduate to production

Define graduation criteria up front with owners, then fund the top pilot through rollout.

Teams chase hype use cases

Score every proposal on value versus feasibility and kill low-score items quarterly.

Risk review arrives after launch

Gate funding on a completed risk map and require sign-off before pilot expansion.

Roadmap slips every quarter

Cut the roadmap to funded milestones with named owners and review progress monthly.

Executives lose confidence after a failed pilot

Publish the lessons with metrics, narrow the next pilot, and report small wins early.

Before you move on, you should be able to

  • Design pilots with success metrics and risk notes
  • Build roadmaps with phased rollouts and governance checkpoints
  • Prioritize AI investments across competing proposals
